Pyrenees Tours
admin | October 19, 2010Traveling Through the Pyrenees Mountains
The Pyrenees Mountains sit between southern France and northern Spain. They create a barrier between these two countries. Many people have toured the Pyrenees Mountains by walking, cycling, and motorcycling and also by Pyrenees tours available upon arrival.
Some prefer professionally planned guided tours, while others look forward to the freedom of a self-guided tour, with the possibility of lingering somewhat along the way. Those doing self-guided tours also need to make arrangements for hotel stays and transferral of luggage from one town to another.
Pyrenees tours usually begin at the Atlantic Ocean in the casino town of Barritz and end on the Mediterranean side at Colloure. It is suggested that travelers submerge themselves in the Atlantic and then bask in the warmth found on the Mediterranean shores.
The Pyrenees tours take approximately 8 -10 days. The average cost of a tour is $2,500 with breakfasts and country dinners provided at the various hotels along the way. Some hotels are quite provincial, and yet the occupants of each room are guaranteed a private bath.
The Pyrenees tours require a certain physical strength and cycling ability in order to cross the mountain terrain. Only experienced cyclists are encouraged to take this type of tour. The fully guided Pyrenees tours offer vehicle support. Self-guided tours do not provide this particular service.
Day tours are offered and display the scenic views of quaint, medieval mountain villages where country dining, including smoked sausages, and fine wines are the primary offering. The countryside is abundant with unique flora and fauna.
From wild boars to wild lilies, the scenery is replete with diversity. Many activities are available. In addition to the pure beauty of this region, one can experience golfing, horseback riding, white water rafting and if so desired, a balloon ride over the mountain ridges.
